easyJet Boosts London-Akureyri Flight Schedule

Date:

easyJet has announced an exciting extension of its winter flight schedule from London Gatwick to Akureyri, now offering service through April. Originally set to conclude in March, this new development was revealed during a conference in Akureyri back in November.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK country manager, shared insights into the airline’s operations and what lies ahead. Not only will flights now be available through April, but the airline also plans to resume service in early October next year, effectively adding two months to the winter schedule. Reservations for the October flights will open at the start of 2025. Though unable to attend the conference in person, Gayward conveyed her message via a recorded address, which can be viewed below.

“We are thrilled to announce this enhancement to our offerings and to provide our customers with more travel options,” Gayward remarked. “The demand for journeys to North Iceland has been steadily rising year after year, particularly for flights from London Gatwick. The recent addition of flights from Manchester also helps us connect with an even broader customer base in Northern England.”

As for the Manchester route, Gayward indicated that they would closely monitor demand. She expressed confidence in its potential, noting that there has been a substantial surge in interest for winter travel from the UK, prompting the airline to offer flights during this peak period.

Arnheiður Jóhannsdóttir, Managing Director of Visit North Iceland, echoed this enthusiasm, stating, “The availability of flights during autumn and spring months presents exciting travel opportunities for both British and Icelandic travelers. Typically, April sees a slowdown in tourism in North Iceland, so this extension not only prolongs the season but also allows us to provide comprehensive services and mitigate seasonal fluctuations.”
