Just after 7:40 AM this morning, Húsafell was thrust into a dramatic spectacle as heavy thunder and lightning rolled in. This tempestuous weather quickly made its way across various regions, impacting Sælingsdalur, Hrútafjörður, and parts of Strandasýsla, finally reaching the picturesque Westfjords, especially the vicinity of Önundarfjörður. By the clock struck 10:00 AM, the skies above Reykhólasveit and Þorskafjarðarheiði were illuminated by a flurry of lightning strikes—more than 450 had already been recorded in the short span since the storms began.
The Icelandic Meteorological Office is keeping a vigilant eye on ongoing developments as this intense weather system unfolds.
