Over 30,000 Tons of Fur Quota Allocated

Date:

The Bureau of Fisheries has finalized its allocation of 31,046 tonnes of shad and 170,112 tonnes of cod for the fishing year spanning 2025 to 2026, as well as for the calendar year 2026.

Last October, the Norwegian Marine Research Institute proposed a capelin quota for the fishing year 2025 to 2026, suggesting a maximum of nearly 44 thousand tons. However, this recommendation is set for re-evaluation following the turn of the year.

Among the allocations, Sigurður VE 15, operated by Ísfélagið hf., secured the largest fur quota at 3,566 tons. Hot on its heels is Venus NS 150 from Brim hf., which received an allocation of 2,899 tons.

A comprehensive listing of the allocations for Kolmunna and Loðna is available on the official data page of the Norwegian Fisheries Agency.

In an interview prior to year-end, Guðmundur J. Óskarsson, head of the pelagic division at the Norwegian Maritime Research Agency, noted plans for an extensive furrow search. This endeavor will see five ships take to the waters starting in mid-January.
