The Icelandic Air Traffic Controller Association (ICEATCA) has announced that it will impose an overtime ban beginning November 25, should negotiations with the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise remain unresolved. This announcement follows the union’s ongoing struggle to secure a new labor contract, with an arbitration meeting scheduled for November 18.
The decision to issue an overtime ban stems from a desire to exert pressure for a renewed agreement, as past discussions have yielded little progress. In a recent press release, the ICEATCA emphasized that this action is the most reasonable step their members can take at this juncture, particularly given that employees have been without a valid labor contract since the start of 2025.
This isn’t the first move the union has made in pursuit of their goals; in October, they organized a five-hour strike that disrupted 15 flights at Keflavík Airport, highlighting the ripple effects of their ongoing negotiations. As the situation develops, the pressure is palpable, with both unions and employers keenly aware of the stakes involved.
