Early Monday morning, chaos erupted at a local school when attackers armed with sophisticated weapons stormed the premises, firing sporadically, as detailed by police in their statement. Tragically, a security guard sustained injuries during the incident.
Authorities rushed to the scene, but by that time, the assailants—a group believed to be affiliated with a criminal gang—had already breached the school’s perimeter. They abducted 25 students, whisking them away to an undisclosed location.
In response, military units, police, and local civil guards have mobilized, scouring the area in a desperate search for the missing children. The alarming trend of school kidnappings for ransom has become distressingly common in northern Nigeria, an area beset by various armed groups. The northwest region has particularly suffered at the hands of gangs that not only seize children for ransom but also raid villages, steal livestock, and set homes ablaze.
