On Friday at 3:20 p.m., a tragic bus accident unfolded in central Stockholm, prompting immediate police intervention. A bus, operating in regular traffic between Östra station and Vaxholm, collided with a bus shelter, veered into several trees, and ultimately crashed into a pole.
Remarkably, the vehicle continued to travel approximately 40 meters along the pavement before coming to a halt.
The collision resulted in injuries to six individuals, three of whom sadly succumbed to their injuries. The remaining victims were hospitalized, with two in stable condition.
### All the Victims are Women
By Monday, authorities confirmed that the three deceased were women, aged between 55 and 65. Among them was an employee from the Public Prosecutor’s Office and another from Karolinska University Hospital.
Relatives of the victims have been informed, the police reported. In a concerning development, efforts are underway to reach the family of the third woman, who is believed to reside in another European country.
Initially, the bus driver was arrested and detained under suspicion of causing death and bodily harm. However, by Saturday, he was released, and police indicated that there is currently no evidence suggesting that the incident was intentional.
