Victor Nilsson Lindelöf Sets Sights on World Cup Glory

Sweden’s team captain, Victor Nilsson Lindelöf, has put out a heartfelt message expressing his desire to pull on the Blågult jersey again. He made his return in the recent match against Kosovo — even as the team fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat — before being rested for the World Cup qualifying clash against Switzerland, a match that ended in a heavy 4-1 loss.

With the national team now facing World Cup playoffs, Lindelöf — who played at the 2018 World Cup, where Sweden made it to the quarter-finals — is clear about what he wants. He’s been there before. He knows what it means.

“A World Cup is the pinnacle of our sport,” Lindelöf said. “Playing in 2018 really showed me just how big this event is — for us as players and for our country. The chance to represent Sweden at that level means everything. Everything we’re doing in training right now is building toward March, when we hope to perform well and earn our spot. For me, this could be my last shot at a World Cup. I want to make it count.”

Tomorrow, Sweden wrap up the World Cup qualifying group stage with a match against Slovenia, before attention turns to the playoff decisions in March.
