Three people have been arrested on suspicion of murder following a fire that tore through several apartment buildings in Hong Kong yesterday. At least 44 people have died, and dozens more are in critical condition, authorities confirmed.
Close to 280 residents remain unaccounted for. More than 900 people have been moved into emergency shelters. The complex consists of eight buildings that house around 4,600 residents — among them a large number of elderly people — and contains roughly 2,000 apartments in total.
Firefighters have brought the blaze under control but are still working to fully extinguish it.
The three men arrested are aged between 52 and 68. No direct link to the cause of the fire has yet been established, and the investigation is ongoing.
