Three individuals have been taken into custody on suspicion of murder following a devastating fire that engulfed several apartment buildings in Hong Kong yesterday. Tragically, at least 44 lives have been lost, with dozens more in critical condition, according to authorities.
As the situation unfolds, nearly 280 people remain unaccounted for, while more than 900 have sought refuge in emergency shelters. The complex comprises eight buildings home to approximately 4,600 residents, including a significant number of elderly citizens. With around 2,000 apartments in total, the community has been deeply affected by this tragedy.
Firefighters have successfully contained the flames but are continuing efforts to extinguish any lingering threats.
The three men arrested, aged between 52 and 68, have not yet been connected in detail to the cause of the fire, leaving many questions unanswered as the investigation proceeds.
