President Halla Tómasdóttir Meets with King Karl III at Buckingham Palace
President Halla Tómasdóttir held a private meeting with King Karl III at Buckingham Palace today. Writing on her Facebook page afterward, she described the atmosphere as warm and congenial.
The British royal family also marked the occasion on their Instagram, posting a photo of Halla and the King shaking hands inside the Palace.
The official visit to the UK began yesterday and has taken in a range of meetings and events touching on global issues and bilateral ties.
Earlier in the visit, President Tómasdóttir joined former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard for a discussion at King’s College. The two talked leadership, equality, and climate solutions — subjects Halla has long championed. She spoke warmly of her admiration for Gillard and said the conversation was deepened by sharp questions from King’s College students.
The President’s schedule also includes a visit to the Sustainable Ventures center, which supports start-ups working on sustainability and climate solutions. She is set to meet Costas Markides, a strategy professor at the London Business School, for a conversation on the prosperity economy and what effective leadership looks like in times of change.
