Weather Report: A Shift in Conditions Across the Country

As dawn breaks, expect a mix of rain and snow to blanket the country. However, relief is on the horizon; conditions will gradually improve as the day unfolds, though winds are set to pick up later.

Throughout the day, a northerly or variable wind will whip across the landscape at speeds ranging from 3 to 10 m/s. In the northwest, residents can brace for a notably strong breeze. Precipitation will be widespread, characterized by both rain and wintry showers, particularly in northern and eastern regions. The deluge should begin to taper off after midday, with the first signs of respite arriving in the west.

By afternoon, the winds will intensify across much of the country, particularly in the southeast, where gusts could reach between 13 to 18 m/s later this evening. Expect temperatures to hover between 2 to 6 degrees Celsius in the southern regions, while the rest of the country sees a more wintry chill, lingering around the freezing mark.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, anticipate a variable wind shifting between 3 to 8 m/s, mingled with a strong northeast breeze in the east. In Öræfi, the southeast region of Iceland, winds will pick up further in the afternoon, potentially reaching 13 to 20 m/s before settling down in the evening. The chill will deepen, with temperatures dropping to between -1 and -7 degrees Celsius; the coldest conditions will be found inland.
