Reykjavík, Iceland — A sudden global outage at Cloudflare brought down a wide range of websites this afternoon, with users across Iceland reporting pages that refused to load, sluggish performance, and “502 Gateway Error” messages. The disruption only lasted a few minutes, but it was enough to affect major platforms worldwide — particularly those leaning on Cloudflare’s CDN, DNS, and security services.
Cloudflare confirmed it is investigating a network issue affecting multiple customers, which caused temporary downtime for news sites, travel platforms, business websites, and WordPress-based pages in Iceland. Services running WP Automatic and RSS imports also stalled while the interruption was ongoing.
The root cause appears to be a routing-level error — not a cyberattack. That’s consistent with past incidents, which Cloudflare engineers have typically resolved quickly once they pinpointed the problem.
Services are largely back to normal now, though some minor instability may linger. Website owners are advised to hold off on DNS changes and let caches refresh on their own as Cloudflare works to fully stabilise its network.
