Agenda Faces Backlash Over AI-Generated Clip in Deportation Feature
Viewers watching a recent edition of Agenda were shown a feature on the deportation of undocumented individuals in the United States — and the growing tension between federal immigration authorities, specifically ICE, and local police departments in several Democratic cities.
One clip in the piece appeared to show a New York police officer confronting an ICE agent on a busy city street. The problem: it was entirely AI-generated, not real footage, and the broadcast aired it as though it were genuine.
“It is regrettable that we inadvertently aired an AI-generated clip,” acknowledged Michael Kucera, the publisher responsible for Agenda. “Our audience deserves to trust that every image presented in our program is genuine. We are currently reassessing our procedures to prevent such errors in the future.”
Featured Twice in the Broadcast
The clip ran twice — once at the top of the program and again near the end as part of the wider immigration feature. It wasn’t caught before either airing.
Following the backlash, the broadcast was pulled from SVT Play. A corrected version, without the AI clip, is set to be made available shortly, and a text correction will be added to give viewers the full picture.
