A Neos airline flight carrying a group of Icelandic travelers made a long-awaited landing in Keflavík at 4 a.m., marking the end of a trying ordeal that began the previous evening. The passengers had been stranded at Dublin Airport since 7 p.m. after their aircraft was unexpectedly diverted from Alicante.
### A Journey Challenging for All, Especially the Young
Among those on the flight were octogenarians Valgarð Reinhardsson and Bettý Ingadóttir. In an interview with mbl.is, Valgarð recounted the experience, calling the landing in Dublin the most harrowing he had ever encountered.
Their daughter, Ásta Kristín, shared a brief conversation with mbl.is, highlighting the toll the journey had taken on her parents. “They are resting now. It was quite the challenge for them,” she remarked, emphasizing that the trip had been particularly tough on the younger passengers. Many of the children were visibly exhausted and in tears.
Ásta noted that the lack of service at the airport added to the difficulties. “They were effectively alone in that space. My mother, who uses a wheelchair, was fortunate that someone was there to assist with their bags. It seems there aren’t many staff around at that hour,” she explained, adding that it took about an hour for her parents to collect their belongings. “I suppose that’s just how it goes,” she concluded with a hint of resignation.
