Cloudflare Outage Briefly Takes Down Major Websites — Iceland Also Affected

Date:

Reykjavík, Iceland — A sudden global outage at Cloudflare caused widespread website failures this afternoon, with many Icelandic users reporting pages not loading, slow performance, and “502 Gateway Error” messages. The disruption lasted only a few minutes but impacted major platforms worldwide, including sites that rely heavily on Cloudflare’s CDN, DNS, and security services.

Cloudflare confirmed it is investigating a network issue affecting multiple customers, leading to temporary downtime for news sites, travel platforms, business websites and WordPress-based pages in Iceland. Some services using WP Automatic and RSS imports also stalled during the interruption.

The cause appears to be a routing-level error, not a cyberattack. Similar issues in the past were resolved quickly once Cloudflare engineers implemented fixes.

Services are now returning to normal, though minor instability may continue. Website owners are advised to avoid DNS changes and allow caches to refresh naturally as Cloudflare stabilizes its network.
