Sharp/NEC Rebrands as Sharp: A New Chapter in Display Solutions
Japanese technology company Sharp/NEC — known for its information screens and display solutions — has officially dropped the NEC name. Going forward, the company will trade solely as Sharp.
In a recent press release issued by Ofar, Sharp/NEC’s service partner in Iceland, it was confirmed that warranty terms and service provisions for existing NEC solutions will remain unchanged.
Transition Takes Effect
The change became official on November 1. From that date, all new products carry the Sharp branding. NEC-branded items will still be available while supplies last, as detailed in the announcement.
The backstory: back in 2020, Sharp Corporation and NEC Display Solutions Ltd. merged to form Sharp NEC Display Solutions Ltd., aiming to strengthen their foothold in the global market. Sharp held a majority stake from the start and has now completed the acquisition of NEC’s remaining shares. As of November 1, everything coming out of the combined entity bears the Sharp label.
Ofar, which has been a service provider for NEC in Iceland since 2006, has reassured customers that the warranty and support for current NEC display solutions will not be affected by the transition.
A Longstanding Partnership
Ofar and Sharp/NEC have worked together on display solutions in Iceland since 2006. The partnership has earned some recognition lately — they were nominated for the “Retail Project of the Year” at the AV Awards 2025 for their work on information screens in the new arrival and baggage halls of Keflavík Airport.
For Sharp, the rebrand is the next step in consolidating what has already been a major global display technology operation, with quality and service continuity the clear priority for existing customers.
