The capital’s beloved weekend market, Kolaportið, has officially embraced the festive season, enchanting visitors with its joyful ambiance.
Amidst the usual treasures that fill the market, a dazzling array of Christmas merchandise has made its appearance, drawing in both locals and tourists eager for seasonal delights. This weekend, approximately 90 new vendors joined the 50 regulars, transforming Kolaportið on Tryggvagata into a vibrant hub pulsing with holiday spirit and lively music.
Shoppers strolled through the stalls, truly capturing the essence of the season, while many vendors donned festive attire to match the cheerful atmosphere.
“This is not too early,” remarks Alda Björk Lilliendahl Ólafsdóttir, a shopkeeper at the Christmas Village, as she reflects on the market’s transformation.
In a light-hearted moment, she adds, “We played Christmas music for the first time today, but we won’t do it every day—otherwise, we might go a bit mad!”
Kolaportið is renowned not just for its festive charm but also for its diverse offerings, including Icelandic handicrafts, antiques, vintage clothing, wool products, and specialty foods. This bustling market captures the spirit of Iceland with its unique blend of creativity and tradition.
