Nestled in the north of the country, a sprawling hilly terrain stretches from Greenland to Scandinavia, effectively blocking common weather systems from reaching the northern regions. This geographical characteristic results in southern depressions colliding with these hills, leading to noticeably stronger winds in the south. Meanwhile, areas further afield experience much gentler breezes.
This information comes straight from the latest forecast by the Norwegian Meteorological Agency.
Over the next few days, the southeast and the southern shores of Austfjörður can expect persistent showers or even torrential rain, which will be the primary source of precipitation.
In contrast, minor gales may be felt in the northern inlets and around the Vestfjörður region, but other areas, particularly Faxaflóa and Breiðafjörður, are poised for mainly dry and clear conditions. However, temperatures are set to dip gradually over the coming days.
This weather pattern is anticipated to persist through at least the weekend.
