Excitement Builds for Latabær’s 30th Birthday Celebration
Latabær is turning 30, and a proper celebration is already taking shape. The anniversary event is aimed at children and families and will be held at Háskálabíó on January 17 and 18. Several familiar characters are returning, and one key casting decision is already confirmed: Mikael Kaaber will play the sports elf. He brings real physical energy to the role alongside a natural warmth that makes the character work for young audiences.
Festival organisers made the announcement, and it gives a clear sense of the kind of show they are putting together — something with heart, not just spectacle.
Also on the bill are Solla stíðirða and Glanni gläupur. Hildur Vala Baldursdóttir takes on the role of Solla, while Almar Blær Sigurjónsson steps in as Glanni.
A Dynamic Interactive Experience for Children
Producer and artistic director Stella Rósenkranz has been open about what she wants the event to feel like. “We aim to create a lively atmosphere where children are not just spectators, but integral parts of the experience,” she said. “They will dance, jump, and engage through play and movement throughout the exhibition.”
For Rósenkranz, keeping things active and genuinely fun matters more than putting on a polished but passive show. “We are thrilled to welcome these talented new actors, each embodying the spirit of Latabær — joy, creative play, and positivity. They are all fantastic role models, ideal for the celebration.”
There will also be musical guests, though the full lineup won’t be announced until next week. Tickets are on sale now.
