The Progressive Parliamentary Party is set to hold a press conference tomorrow, Tuesday, at 10 a.m. in the Alþingi building, where they will unveil proposals aimed at addressing the pressing issues faced by children and young people in Iceland.
This announcement comes via a press release from the party’s leader, Ingibjörg Isaksen. The conference will take place in Skála, located within the Alþingishus, but details regarding the agenda remain scant aside from a link to a forthcoming YouTube stream of the event.
In a recent interview with Vísi, Ingibjörg expressed deep concern over the current state of children’s welfare, particularly in light of the fact that this year will see the appointment of Iceland’s third Minister of Education and Children’s Affairs.
Inga Sæland, leader of the People’s Party, assumed the ministerial role during a State Council meeting yesterday. She stepped in following the resignation of Guðmundur Ingi Kristinsson, who is currently recovering from heart surgery. Guðmundur served for nearly ten months; prior to him, Ásthildur Lóa Þórsdóttir held the position for just four months.
“We are facing numerous challenges and there are no easy solutions,” Ingibjörg stated, declining to divulge any specifics about tomorrow’s proposals. “However, we will take a more comprehensive look at this situation then.”
It’s worth noting that the Progressives were responsible for handling education in the previous government.
