Tom Cruise and Sydney Sweeney Spark Dating Rumors at the Governors Awards

Something caught everyone’s attention at the Governors Awards in Los Angeles last weekend — Tom Cruise and Sydney Sweeney, side by side, sparking plenty of speculation about whether a new Hollywood pair is in the making.

A video shared by Variety caught the two mingling with friends to the sound of live jazz. At one point, Sweeney told Cruise she had zero interest in boats: “I’ve never driven a boat… I don’t want to.” It was a light moment, especially given Cruise’s well-known habit of throwing himself out of planes or off rooftops for the cameras. Sweeney, who recently transformed her physique to play boxer Christy Martin in the upcoming film Christy, looked relaxed and clearly in good spirits throughout.

Cruise stepped up to the stage that evening to accept an Oscar, and his speech landed well with the room. “Movies take me all over the world,” he said. “They teach me to appreciate and respect our differences. They reveal our shared humanity and how alike we truly are. Regardless of our backgrounds, in movies we laugh, we feel, and we hope together. That’s the power of this art form. It’s not just what I do; it’s who I am.”

The appearance comes only weeks after Cruise and actress Ana de Armas called it quits. According to sources, the split was mutual — a quiet acknowledgement that the connection had faded. “The spark had gone between them, but they still love each other’s company and have both been very mature about it,” one source said. The two are said to be keeping things friendly.

Sweeney’s own situation has also shifted recently. She ended a seven-year engagement to Jonathan Davino and is now reportedly dating music manager Scooter Braun.

Between the banter at the Governors Awards and the fresh starts on both sides, Cruise and Sweeney are going to have people watching closely for a while yet.
