easyJet Launches Inaugural Manchester to Akureyri Flight

This morning, under a bright yet breezy sky, easyJet proudly completed its inaugural flight from Manchester to Akureyri, a charming gem in North Iceland. With this new route, the airline now operates direct flights from both London Gatwick and Manchester Airport, scheduled twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

The announcement of these Manchester flights this spring marks an exciting expansion following the successful launch of London services last winter. The response has been overwhelmingly positive from travelers in both the UK and Iceland, as easyJet provides a wealth of connections through its two UK hubs. Tour operators are now gearing up to make winter trips to North Iceland more accessible, allowing adventurers more time to delve into the stunning landscapes and rich culture of the region.

When the flights were first unveiled, Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK country manager, expressed her enthusiasm for this new destination. “We are delighted to be launching a second route this winter to Akureyri from Manchester Airport,” Gayward remarked. “As the only airline offering a direct connection between the UK and Northern Iceland, this new service complements our existing route from London Gatwick. It enhances choice and connectivity for travelers in both regions. We are committed to supporting the development of tourism in Iceland and eagerly await welcoming more passengers aboard this winter.”

Joining the celebration were Chris Hagan and Halldór Óli from Visit North Iceland, alongside Hjördís Þórhallsdóttir, the manager of Akureyri International Airport, all sharing in the excitement of this new chapter for travel to one of the most beautiful corners of the world.
