The Association of Icelandic Air Traffic Controllers (FÍF) has formally announced an overtime ban set to commence at midnight on November 25. This decision underscores the critical nature of reaching an agreement between the air traffic controllers and Isavia without further delay.
In a recent statement, FÍF expressed its deep dissatisfaction over the ongoing lack of a contract, which has persisted since the beginning of the year. This situation poses significant risks not only to Isavia but also to the numerous air carriers navigating Iceland’s busy air traffic control system.
### A Disheartening Development
“It is very disappointing that no resolution was achieved during the meeting between FÍF, Isavia, and the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise (SA) last Sunday,” the announcement highlighted. The union feels compelled to implement this overtime ban, even amid ongoing negotiations, in hopes of fostering dialogue that could avert further measures by its members.
FÍF has pointed out that Isavia has been steadily losing its competitive edge due to a troubling trend characterized by insufficient recruitment and high levels of stress among current staff. The union aims to reverse this decline to safeguard Icelandic interests and ensure a robust air traffic control workforce.
