Transition in Leadership at Algalíf
In a significant development for the biotechnology sector, Algalíf has announced that Orri Björnsson will retire as CEO after an impressive thirteen-year tenure with the company.
Stepping into Björnsson’s shoes is Kári Marís Guðmundsson, the outgoing director of PCC in Bakka, who has been appointed to take the helm at Algalíf starting early December.
In a heartfelt message shared on Facebook, Orri reflects on his time at Algalíf, describing his departure as a pivotal moment. “I leave the table with immense pride,” he commented, emphasizing the privilege he felt in guiding the company through both its challenges and triumphs.
A Bright Future
Orri expressed confidence in Algalíf’s future, noting the recent completion of a new factory that is now fully operational. “Algalíf will always hold a special place in my heart, and I wish the company and all its employees nothing but the best,” he shared. He is optimistic about the company’s potential to flourish, stating, “I know they will continue to push forward and develop this unique vision into an even stronger enterprise.” While Orri officially steps down, he plans to remain involved for the next few months to facilitate a smooth transition.
Embracing New Challenges
In addition to his role at Algalíf, Orri has recently assumed the position of chairman of the Hafnarfjörður town council and will also chair the planning and building council. He acknowledged the demands of these new responsibilities, especially with the upcoming primary elections looming.
“I am committed to leading our Independents in municipal affairs in Hafnarfjörður,” he stated. Looking ahead to the town council elections this spring, he aims to spearhead the list for the Independence Party as a candidate for mayor. “I will dedicate all my energy toward ensuring a successful election, with the goal of forming a majority to continue advancing Hafnarfjörður,” he concluded, sharing his aspirations for the community on Facebook.
