The Progressive Parliamentary Party is holding a press conference tomorrow, Tuesday, at 10 a.m. in the Alþingi building, where they plan to put forward proposals on the situation facing children and young people in Iceland.
The announcement came through a press release from the party’s leader, Ingibjörg Isaksen. The conference will be held in Skála, inside the Alþingishus. Beyond a link to a YouTube stream of the event, details about the agenda are thin on the ground.
In a recent interview with Vísi, Ingibjörg spoke frankly about her concern for children’s welfare — particularly given that Iceland is set to see its third Minister of Education and Children’s Affairs this year alone.
Inga Sæland, leader of the People’s Party, took over the ministerial role at a State Council meeting yesterday. She follows Guðmundur Ingi Kristinsson, who stepped down while recovering from heart surgery after serving nearly ten months in the post. Before him, Ásthildur Lóa Þórsdóttir held the position for just four months.
“We are facing numerous challenges and there are no easy solutions,” Ingibjörg said, stopping short of revealing what tomorrow’s proposals will actually contain. “However, we will take a more comprehensive look at this situation then.”
It’s worth noting that the Progressives held responsibility for education in the previous government.
