The first Icelandic film of 2023, titled Röskun, is set to make its debut on February 19. This psychological thriller draws inspiration from the 2019 novel of the same name by Íris Aspar Ingjaldsdóttir.
Set against the backdrop of Reykjavík, the film follows Hera, a lawyer seeking to rebuild her life after a harrowing trauma. She relocates to a basement apartment in a vintage building, eager for a fresh start. Yet, it soon becomes clear that her new home harbors unsettling secrets. As Hera navigates her recovery, she grapples with whether the eerie presence she senses is a figment of her paranoia and post-traumatic stress, or if she is, indeed, being haunted by the spirit of a murdered former tenant.
For a glimpse into the film’s chilling atmosphere, the trailer is available for viewing.
Úríður Blær Jóhannsdóttir steps into the role of Hera, supported by a talented cast including Unnur Birna Backmann, Arnar Dan Kristjánsson, Kolbeinn Arnbjörnsson, and Ólafía Hrönn Jónsdóttir.
Directed by Bragi Þór Hinriksson, with a script penned by Helga Arnardóttir, Röskun is produced by HMS Productions, in collaboration with Valdimar Kúld. The project also benefits from the support of co-producer Siminn.
As anticipation builds for its release, Röskun promises to immerse audiences in a gripping narrative that challenges the boundary between reality and perception.
